Several weeks ago, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation has made it mandatory for visitors to show a photo ID prior to entering its casinos. This measure is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the GameSense program, which is designed to protect players and help those who may be struggling with gambling problems. This new requirement took effect on Monday, June 26, 2023 .
Players who are dealing with gambling addiction can join the Game Break program, a service offered by BCLC that allows individuals to exclude themselves from gambling activities within British Columbia. Participants can take advantage of temporary programs that permit them to refrain from engaging in gambling at local establishments or on PlayNow.
New Entry Requirements Effective
Starting Monday, all individuals will need to show government-issued photo identification to gain entry into a casino. Security personnel will scan the IDs to verify them against the Game Break database, thereby preventing those enrolled in self-exclusion programs from entering.
Pat Davis, the president and CEO of BCLC , mentioned that players have been made aware of the new entry requirements via various educational initiatives. He also noted that while promoting responsible gambling, residents of British Columbia can still access helpful resources, including free treatment options and prevention programs available through Gambling Support BC .
