The Finnish regulatory authorities have slapped BML Group's subsidiary, Betsson, with a substantial fine of €2.4 million.
This penalty was enforced by the Finnish National Police Board because Betsson failed to comply with the Finnish Lotteries Act, which mandates that all betting companies must hold a local license to promote their services in Finland.
This fine arises from the fact that BML has been creating promotional materials aimed specifically at Finnish consumers. These advertisements are designed to advertise gambling services, which is against the law.
Several warnings
The Finnish Government had previously issued numerous warnings to BML Group, prompting them to implement changes to their marketing strategies targeting the Finnish market.
However, these adjustments did not significantly affect the situation, as Betsson's promotional content continued to be visible across various online platforms in Finland, leading to the issuance of a conditional fine last April by the police.
The imposed fine of €2.4 million is conditional and may be contested. The formal enforcement of this decision is slated to take effect on June 3.
